ReviewsJan 28/23 I loved reading "A critical human error". Being a grandmother myself, I could easily relate to the thoughts and feelings of Meredith, the main character in the book, her struggles and her joy. The story line is interesting, exciting and keeps you turning the pages. Living in Alberta it's neat to recognize places, weather conditions etc. It's easy to imagine yourself in these situations. The book also gave insight in procedures of Child Services, mental health care, how to handle grief and guilt and transforming it to acceptance and joy. Thank you for writing this book Barbara Glasier!
Corry 3/8/21 I have not read a fiction book for along time and was so happy to find "A Critical Human Error" From the time I picked the book up to read I had such a hard time putting it down. Barbara did such an amazing job of keeping such suspense in each chapter. I found myself relating to the 61 year old grandmother Meredith in this book . It actually help guide me in some of the decisions with our own granddaughters. The characters where so relatable I found. I kept thinking how would I have handled this if it was my son and granddaughter. Being from the Peace Country I enjoyed how Barbara captured the Peace Country, it was like it actually took place. Barbara has such a gift with her writing, keeping everyone so captivated. I highly recommend this book, it is such a good read. Sharon
3/8/21 I have just finished reading "A Critical Human Error". I found it a very compelling story. It gripped me right from the start. The characters were believable and well described, and the set up was intriguing. I had never heard of male rape and certainly had never thought of the emotional consequences of such an attack. I also liked to read about the family relationships between Meredith and Andy as well as their relationships with and between their children. The warmth and concern about each other came through very powerfully. Leanna and Colleen are both complex people. Neither are entirely bad or good but as with all people, they have multiple sides and unique histories that have profound consequences on their actions. You have written a book that I shall definitely encourage others to buy. Antonia
1/2/21 I was so excited to get my copy of your wonderful book! I loved it from start to finish, it was interesting to read about how everyone was going to handle all the twists and turns of each event. Very well written and fun to read. Congratulations Barbara Glasier on keeping me intrigued in your very interesting story. Loved it!! Doris
1/12/21 This book was so well written with a well developed plot. Once I started to read it I could not put it down. While this book had suspense and intrigue, it also had very heart warming overtones. As a grandmother. I found myself relating to many of the instances in the book and wondering what I might have done if this had happened to me. Great Read. Barb
12/4/20 From the moment I saw the cover of this book, I fell in love with Sam, the little girl whose pleading eyes and gentle smile accompanied me from the first page to the last. With warmth and compassion, you tell the poignant story of this little girl who lands unannounced on the doorstep of the Taylor family, turning their lives upside down, but who also captures the heart of each family member. You illuminate the family’s struggles as they learn more about Sam, but you also offer hope by how positively family members interact with one another. Thus, you have created more than a novel, – you have created a window into two challenging social issues that are seldom addressed, or even acknowledged, in today’s society. Your nursing experience shines through in your realistic yet tender portrayals of medical, counselling, and end-of-life conversations. I particularly enjoyed the familiarity of reading a novel set within Canada – such fun to “feel at home” in the story. I eagerly anticipate reading about what happens to Sam in your next book. Betty
11/23/20 What a great read !! You’ve engaged the reader from the very first page as once I picked up your book I couldn’t put it down!! You give such attention to the minute details that help build believable characters helping us understand them and the situations they’re in. We all yearn for love and understanding and we see this developing thread throughout the book as the plot develops with the family becoming paramount in the healing process. I found “A Critical Human Error” a great read indeed!! Looking so forward to the sequel !! Eileen
10/30/20 I highly recommend "A Critical Human Error" to more than just the older generation. I think all adults would enjoy this dramatic story of family dynamics in addressing a modern day social and moral dilemma. I read the book in two days as it was a captivating page turner and extremely believable. I give it a 5/5 rating and hope that a sequel will be written by this very capable author. Sheila
10/4/20 Thoroughly enjoyed your book......entertaining, thought provoking and insightful! Meredith is truly a role model for how to respond to a life changing event in a compassionate and uplifting manner! Keep writing....I’ll want a copy of your next book! Jeanette
9/14/20 From page one this story held me. It held me in wonder and fear. Barbara tells this story with amazing humanity. We all know the people involved in the situation she describes. Any one of the characters could be a neighbour, a friend. I cared about everyone involved because I knew them. I am relieved for these new acquaintances that all is well. Kathleen
8/24/20 The author of ‘A Critical Human Error’ has artfully woven a story of intrigue, relational challenges, emotional responses and social issues into a delightful, touching read. I especially loved how openly and honestly she shared the inner thoughts, feelings and struggles of Meredith, the main character in such a way that allowed me to relate and learn. The authentic, positive and real way Meredith interacted with her husband, children and grandchildren inspired me. It is an entertaining, wholesome novel that is also educational in matters of communication, crisis management and the importance of developing a network of friends. I found myself drawn into the lives of the characters and their emotions so much so that I found myself weeping several times and when I thought the story was sorting itself out, a new twist was introduced that made me wonder what could be next – signs to me of an excellent story and storyteller! Thelma
7/10/20 The author has a lovely writing style that is easy to read and a knack for story development that encouraged me to keep reading on. Her character development is precise and vivid, with emotional components that strike straight to the heart, stirring a conflict of emotions at times, for me. The story line is unique and complex, with unexpected surprises along the way. It captured my interest with the opening paragraph and held my curiosity to the end. A delightful and thought provoking read. Sharon
7/2/20 I got a copy of the book A Critical Human Error on Saturday and Sunday turned into a rainy day excellent for a day of reading. After beginning this book I had a hard time putting it down as the story line was excellent. After stopping to eat I was right back reading as each page was becoming more and more involved to the point I needed to finish the book as the story line was very intriguing and a page turner until the end which I finished on Sunday evening. It leaves a lot of loose ends so I hope there will be another sequel to this family saga. Pauline
6/26/20 You have a talent that needs to be appreciated and I hope you continue to publish. I can't imagine having such a complex story in your head! The characters quickly become real and I cared about what happened to them. In fact, I'm ready for a sequel to see what happens. You describe believable relationships between all sorts of people. It was very fun to know the places you refer to in your plot and I could picture the various locations. Well done! Keep writing. Linda
6/18/20 One of the best books I've ever read, and I've read tons of books. I couldn't put it down when I started reading each day, except when I started to fall asleep because it was really late and I was really tired. Very well written and an excellent family story and introduced me to an occasion I'd never heard of before, when the woman "raped" the man to have the child she wanted. And it ended beautifully for the child. Extremely well written. Thank you, Barbara, for writing such a good read book. Kathy
6/18/20 A great read and I didn’t to put the book down. I really liked how the family worked together to support a child and a the family in a very difficult situation. How would I have acted? I also liked that I could relate to the small town setting which made the story even more real. Mary
6/12/20 Wonderful book Barb - both Cal and I enjoyed it a lot. it captured my interest immediately. The plot is unique and kept me intrigued throughout. Great character development and a dynamic family that seems to ooze with strength and love. I found myself furious with Aaron at times, and at other times my heart broke for him. It was so nice to read a book set in the Peace River Country and your vivid descriptions of the area were heartwarming. I have already recommended your book to several friends and also my book club. Thanks for sharing it with us! Heather
6/12/20 A Critical Human Error is a delightful, refreshing novel from a new Western Canadian Author. A serious and unusual crisis — the arrival of an unknown six year old girl at the door of a couple in their sixties, tests the core of their family’s strength and cohesion. As well as the turmoil and distress this unexpected event causes the extended family, the characters' struggles to come to terms with it bring forth a great depth of caring and compassion. In a richly detailed portrait of the day to day decisions and actions of the older couple, the author gently demonstrates the power of their emotional strength and coping abilities. The deep well of kindness and love shown to this little child, and to one another, pay tribute to a committed, well-functioning contemporary family. This insightful novel is a most welcome antidote to the world’s unending troubles. Marilyn
6/12/20 I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I found it exciting and had difficulty putting it down. The characters were carefully and skilfully developed. The author’s insights into human behavior enhanced the breadth and depth of the characters. The author’s wealth of experience in a long diverse nursing career is integrated in ways that are very additive. I spent the first part of my career working in Child Welfare and found this section rang true. Writing this book required a tremendous amount of time, tenacity and dedication. Harvey
6/11/20 When six year old Sam arrives on their doorstep with two large suitcases and her much loved Teddy Bear, a chain of events is unleashed that sends Meredith and Andy Taylor’s normally ordered life spinning out of control. Sam appears to be a well brought-up and confident child and she settles easily into life with Meredith and Andy. As her story unfolds, the Taylors find that their life and the lives of their family have been under scrutiny since before her birth. Sam’s secret could tear the close knit family apart or emotionally ruin this young child. Barbara Glasier has lived, worked and raised her own family in Dawson Creek and she paints a vivid picture of the area, the distinct seasons and the remote beauty of Northern BC. Her first novel leaves her readers wanting more! Maureen
6/3/20 The author quickly draws you into the lives of Meredith and Andy as they choose to raise their granddaughter under unusual circumstances. Her writing touches your heart as you share the pains, sorrows, joys and challenges of raising an unexpected grandchild. I enjoyed the details of the Peace River Country that are woven into the story. Barb’s extensive research into the emotional cost of the character’s journey is very well written. I definitely would recommend this book. Gail
5/31/20 Twists and turn, unexpected surprises in everyday life sums up this wonderful novel. It shows that love from family can overcome the deepest betrayal and how children adept to change, touch our hearts and bless us in magical ways. Miracles do happen in everyday life. A must read. From Sonia Adelaide, Australia. Five Stars
5/21/20 This novel is about a little girl as she finds her way into the hearts of a father and grandparents who didn't know she existed. A thought provoking and heart warming story. Very well written. Couldn't set this book down till I had it finished. I've recommended it to all my friends and family as a 'must read'. Can't wait for a sequel. Martha
20/5/20 - comments from the United Kingdom This is a terrific read that explores two situations I haven't seen covered elsewhere. The dilemmas it reveals could potentially be faced by anyone out of the blue, and the way this particular family and their friends deal with them is so heart-warming. A thoroughly enjoyable book written with style. Pat
5/14/20 An excellent book. The author does a great job in telling this story. Though uncomfortable with a few of the details, I could not put the book down. I can’t wait for another book by this author. Pryna
5/8/20 I am not surprised with either your writing or the quality of the book. You are a wonderful knowledgeable imaginative person. I always enjoy a story that teaches, and your book has certainly done that for me. Your ability to mix little known medical facts with a fast moving plot shows not only success for this book, but for many more. You go girl! You are awesome. Darlene
05/03/20 I found a review for this book on "Positive Lacombe" on Facebook and knew I had to read this book. One email letter and her husband was on his way with my book. I started reading as soon as I got it and couldn't put it down. The story draws you in and captivates you with its charm and the innocence of a six year old child. Barbara weaves the characters together so its like reading a story from your best friend. You come to love the characters as family and are rooting for them to figure this all out. My only disappointment came when I got to the end of this book; I wanted more. I was so happy to hear that Barbara is planning on writing a sequel and taking us all on another journey. I can't wait . Cheryl
5/03/20 Barbara Glasier has written a wonderful family drama based on a situation that is rarely heard of or discussed, taking the reader on an emotional roller coaster from start to finish. I found the book and easy and very enjoyable read while at the same time opening my eyes to something that can be real. Barbara made it seem very real. A very good read. Wayne

I finished reading your book last night and have no reservations at all of recommending it to others to read. It is an interesting story-line and certainly reflects a different take on date rape. It gripped my attention early and held it to the very end as I kept wondering how this would ultimately turn out. I also particularly enjoyed the interchange between Aaron and the counselor. Those conversations seemed so real. Rodger 4/22/20
The story of a little girl in Western Canada, purposefully abandoned by her unwell mother, adapting to the challenges of her new life with other family members. Includes numerous insights into the dynamics of interpersonal relationships. Gord 4/22/20
I loved the book. It is brilliantly written and contains many twist and turns which keeps the reader involved in the story. Its interesting plot and exquisite characterization make this story a standout. 5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Jane 4/26/20
A job well done For all parents and grandparents this book’s cover is an irresistible magnet that invites a further look. Once inside the reader will not be disappointed. The author skillfully develops a delightful character of a child that is bound to get “under the skin” of even the most callous of readers. Other characters well done are Meredith and Andy as they cope with unexpected problems throughout the story. The complications underpinning this book obviously uses the faculties and experience of the author’s lifetime profession. It promises page after page to hold your interest until the very end. Read it; you will cry a little, laugh a little and love it a lot. Fred 5/6/20 Barb - your first book is wonderful. You present a moral dilemma that effects several people: most notably Sam, her biological grandparents, her biological father and his wife, the biological mother and Aunt Colleen. Throughout the novel, these characters work through their portion of the dilemma on their own time and in their own way.
You do an excellent job of describing nature. You provide a great description of life in the Peace Country. You also do an intriguing job of describing how a person at end of life might perceive her immediate environment. You also include a spiritual leader and some conversation about God. I would recommend this book to any adult regardless of age or gender. Carol 6/30/20 Amazing story and so well written! Each page and each chapter held my interest to the very end. Was also nice to see that the setting for "A Critical Human Error" was in Canada. A real family story showing how this family could get through a difficult situation working together. Carol
6/30/20 Great book!! I'm not much of a reader but only took me three days to finish - it certainly held my interest. Roy
